Scotty's Castle

After arguing with myself for 1/2 an hour, I got up at 7:30 am  and walked about 2 miles.......ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE DRY LAKE BED AND BACK.  Distance is so deceiving in a place like this.  Every time I thought I was almost there........I wasn't.  I made it back just as Roger came back from flying.  He went to take pictures of the Hard Luck Mine Castle.  It is a relatively new structure and they give tours, but we had other things to do.

As it turns out, it wasn't much of a castle.  Roger said it looked like someone was building a fancy house.  They probably called it a castle to get people up there to pay for a tour.

There's my Sweetie!  (self-portrait)

After he went for his walk, we had breakfast and a shower.  I made this thumb ring while waiting to take my shower (the water had to heat up).  Rainbow matte cobalt blue---it looks purply.

went for a drive to Scotty's Castle in the Death Valley National Park.  We just took the walking tour that we could do ourselves with the $2.00 guide.  We didn't pay for the tour that took you inside the castle.  It was rather expensive and we have been there before.

The first stop on our walking tour was the stables......but, alas, there were no horses.

However, we did find a few interesting vehicles inside.

They had a little waterway going down the hill.

This is the guest house.

These are some ornately carved wooden doors on the balcony of the castle.

Roger at the front of the castle.

The gates at the front of the center courtyard.

The center courtyard went all the way through with gates at the other end as well.

This is the side entrance to half of the house part of the castle.

To the left of the porch.

Looking out from the steps there is this bridge over the pool (no water).  One side is shallow and the other is deep with windows in the side of the pool so you can be inside and look into the pool.  There was also a little covered gazebo under the bridge between the pools.  The pool was never finished.

The shallow end.

The deep end with a view of the gazebo/bridge.

An upper balcony.

I found this guy lurking on the porch.

These steps took us up on top of the power building.

These pretty tiles were at the top of the stairs.

View of the pool from above.
The clock tower.  You could hear it ticking.

It was right on time, too.

The top was pretty ornate with decorative tiles.

I didn't make it to the top of the hill where Scotty's grave was, but Roger did.

On the way out, Roger found some flowers to take a picture of.

What a day!  I walked 2 miles, rode my bike a bit and then this long walk at the castle.  I am tired and ready to sit.........but dinner still needs cooking.
God bless.
