A bit of a scare

Tuesday we moved from the Bonnie Clare area to Mendocino, CA.  We have a friend (Neil) that lives near there.  We took I-80 to Highway 20 in CA and headed up into the hills and saw REAL trees!

We even had traffic.
A corral near the road.  No evidence of a house or people, though.

There was a big mine along our route.

We passed Clear Lake.  It was a beautiful area.

The road was so curvy, I finally had to sit down to keep from falling down.  I was standing on the bus steps taking pictures out of the windshield.
The jake brake wasn't working so Roger had to use the brakes more than usual and they got hot going up and down through the mountains.  We came to a red light at the bottom of a hill and couldn't stop.  We rolled right through it.  Thankfully there was only one car coming the other way and it turned to go the same way we were going.  We pulled over to let the brakes cool a little and then they worked better.  That was a bit scary, though.  The last stretch of highway 20 before highway and the coast was sooooooo curvy that the speed for the curves was 20-25 mph with no straight stretches between the curves.  I even had to hold on sitting in my chair!  Forget taking pictures on this road.

We finally arrived at Mendocino and made our way to Neil's place.

You can't see it, but there is a ditch in in front of the bus this side of the little bobcat........We also don't have reverse.  The next day Roger go busy with repairs.  He fixed reverse and thinks he has the jake brake fixed as well.  I snapped a picture of him working on the bus.  He had to put it on blocks to get the jacks under it.

He has plenty of tools for working on the bus.

After checking things, he found out that the selonoid wasn't attached.  All the bolts were gone.  It was really hard to get to, to put bolts in.  Two of the holes were stripped and the other 2 he couldn't reach because the space was so small his hands wouldn't fit.  He even took boxes out from under the bed and opened that access hole, but couldn't reach it from there either.

He finally got it attached, kinda, but it isn't going to come off again.  He would have had to pull the engine out to get at it properly.  He will work on that this summer in Washington.
Rhododendrons grow wild here and get really big.  This is just a small one I found on my walk.

Beautiful big pink flowers everywhere.

beautiful  purplish blue lilies

There were flowers everywhere.

Neil has chickens.  He even gave us a dozen eggs!

Neil cooked dinner tonight.  We even ate baked seaweed!!  It was actually pretty good.
It is late and I am tired, so I am going to bed.
God bless
Lila
