This is just a few of the beans. Yum! Home grown, home canned green beans.
For some strange reason I decided that we should can tomatoes. We put diced tomatoes with green chilies or jalapenos in beans when we make a pot of beans. It should be healthier for us to use home canned tomatoes without all the preservatives and things I can't pronounce it them. So we bought 2 boxes of tomatoes. I put onions, garlic, jalapenos, and green and red bell peppers in the jars first.
Then I cut the tomatoes into the jars
Due to limited space in the bus, we did our canning outside. We heated water to pour over the tomatoes so the skins would come off . I had chopped up all the onions and 3 different peppers inside the bus.
Then water bathed them at a boil for 20 minutes.
We were making progress.
The chopping seamed endless.
Roger's mom fixed dinner for us and then we had to continue in the dark. Roger hung up some lights for us to work by.
We had 24 quarts of tomatoes with this much left over, plus I had several green bell peppers left over as well.
We decided to can plain tomatoes to use them up and then we also canned the rest of the green peppers.
Pretty tomatoes.
I was done!!!!!!! I had been standing on my feet for about 9 hours with a break for dinner. I was definitely finished for the day.
The fruits of our labor!
In between all the canning, I made another purse with the leftover fabric from the last two purses. This is the front.
I put lots of purple beads on the flower for the clasp because it was just too pink.
One of the front pockets.
The other front pocket.
I had a monkey button, he,he, he. He's just so cute.
And, of course, a frog button as well, and a butterfly.
I also really like sparkly flower buttons.
The back of the purse.
The beans blew over, they were about done anyway. The corn never really grew more than a few inches tall. We did get a few cobs of corn that were about 3-5 inches long. Small but good. So now it is time to put the garden to bed for the winter........at least most of it. Roger hauled some turkey poo to put on it and work in.
There are still some tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchinis and cabbages left, but not much.
I am now working on Jen's ladybug purse. I have a feeling that there is going to be a lot of handwork on this one. She always used to say I should have the word "sucker" written on my forehead. I guess I am a sucker for our kids and grand kids, but it's my job.
Until next time, God bless.
Lila
